Nigerians should band together and support leaders at all levels, according to former president Muhammadu Buhari, who called this time a critical one for democracy.
In a statement, the former president’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, underlined the value of encouraging leaders—from local government representatives to those at the federal level—as they seek to change the course of the country’s growth.
Buhari congratulated fellow Muslims for successfully completing the 30-day Ramadan fast and the celebration of Eid shortly after the Eid prayer on Wednesday morning.
“Every citizen should support our leaders in their efforts to change the development landscape of the country, from the local government level to the highest at the center,” he declared.
“A vote for our leaders is a vote for tomorrow that will be better.
“It is essential that we defend our country’s integrity and sovereignty as a unit.”
The former president urged those running for political office to always make sure that administrations transition smoothly and without inciting conflict among the community or impeding progress.
