Today is “World Press Freedom Day”.
The Day was set aside to celebrate the fundamental Principles of Press Freedom.
The theme for this year’s event is “A press for the planet: Journalism in the face of environmental Crisis”.
This Day assess the State of Press Freedom globally and defend the Media from attack on their independence.
As Journalists world wide celebrates the Day”, NUJ Katsina State Council observed the peaceful nature of Journalism practice in the State.
Unlike in some far and near States, Journalists in Katsina practice the profession with utmost care and respect to the ethics and norms of Journalism.
As leaders of the Union in Katsina State, we receive no any complain of unethical practice by any of our member from last year to date.
This we believe signifies the fact that Journalists who are fully registered by our seven existing Chapels were up to date in terms of discipline and professionalism in their practice.
We equally observe the existence of a cordial working relationship between Journalists and Security Agents in Katsina State.
We however called on Government and other nongovernmental organizations to continue to work closely with the Media as this will provide more accessibility and dissemination of accurate and reliable information to the citizenry.
Similarly, as Nigeria’s Democracy is about reaching 25 years of existence, we salute our people (Journalists) for playing a greater role towards maintaining the Democracy and particularly congratulates People of Katsina State for enjoying the unlimited dividends of Democracy especially in areas of Roads Construction, Education and other sectors.
NUJ however regretted that the current fuel scarcity has brought unnecessary hardship to Nigeria’s citizens, hence requires immediate government attention.
Signed:
Tukur Hassan Dan-Ali
