The Federal Government has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle and other military chiefs to move to Sokoto State to rid the North-West of the menace of banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.
Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Defence confirmed this in a statement.
According to the administration, the decision is part of an enhanced effort to rid the North West of the threat of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
According to the statement, they would monitor operations in the North West and guarantee that Bello Turji and his Bandits group were apprehended.
“These criminals have been spreading videos of a Nigerian military armoured vehicle trapped in a waterlogged area.
“And late at night, the cops were urged to retreat to prevent being ambushed by bandits. Later that night, the robbers went to the waterlogged location, capturing footage of the stopped armoured vehicle and celebrating it.
“This is unacceptable, especially given President Bola Tinubu’s strong support for Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
“The Federal Government is gravely worried about the ongoing threat presented by banditry and terrorism in the North West, particularly.
The administration stated that there was an urgent need to act against terrorists in order to allow citizens to move freely.
It also reassured the residents of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, as well as the entire North West region, that security forces would stop at nothing to apprehend the bandits.
