The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Kaduna State Government to provide skill acquisition and reintegration programs for minors recently granted amnesty.
The pardoned youths, who were involved in the EndBadGovernance protests, were officially handed over to their respective state governments in December 2024 by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja.
During a follow-up visit to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, assured that the government’s efforts extend beyond granting them freedom.
“We are not just setting them free; we are allowing them to rebuild their lives by equipping them with vocational skills and starter packs,” Yilwatda stated.
He commended Governor Sani for his proactive approach in ensuring that the minors are not only reunited with their families but also receive counseling, education, and skills training.
“None of them will leave this process with regrets. Their future will be brighter than their past,” Yilwatda assured.
He further praised Kaduna State’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of security, education, inclusivity, and empowerment.
The Minister also acknowledged the contributions of UNICEF and other development partners for their support in providing psychosocial assistance, vocational training, and educational reintegration for the affected children.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani noted that since receiving the minors in 2024, the state has provided them with psychosocial therapy under the supervision of Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, a medical doctor.
He added that the children are being supported in their education, businesses, and skill development at the state’s three major skill acquisition centers.
Governor Sani reaffirmed Kaduna State’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry in youth empowerment and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in rural areas through financial assistance programs.
“So far, we have opened accounts for 2.2 million vulnerable persons across the state, but our target is 3.5 million,” he stated.
The Minister concluded by emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening security and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
