Kano Governor Warns Teachers Against Forcing Students Into Manual Labour
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a stern warning to teachers, prohibiting them from engaging students in manual labour within or outside school premises.
The governor’s directive was conveyed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, emphasizing that schools should focus on education and moral development, not physical labour.
During an unscheduled visit to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano, Governor Yusuf discovered students digging a toilet pipeline. Displeased by the sight, he confronted the headmaster, who explained that the task was assigned after school hours. However, the governor insisted that such practices must stop immediately.
Governor Yusuf assured the school management that his administration would renovate all dilapidated structures, including the mosque within the school premises. He further directed that any school-related projects be submitted to the Ministry of Education or his office for proper execution.
Additionally, the governor inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the Kano Printing Press, which was damaged during the End-Bad-Governance protests. Expressing concerns over the quality of work, he instructed the contractor to strictly adhere to the project’s contractual standards.
