Katsina State The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled two separate kidnap attempts in Sabuwa Local Government Area, rescuing a total of 28 victims in the process.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadik Aliyu, and made available to journalists in Katsina.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred when the Command received a distress call from a Good Samaritan, alerting them that suspected armed bandits had blocked the Sabuwa–Kaya road near Inno Junction and abducted about 14 people.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly mobilized a team of operatives to the scene. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, which forced the assailants to flee due to the superior firepower and tactics of the police. All 14 abducted victims were rescued unhurt. However, the bandits fatally shot one Abba, 27, of Funtua town, during the attack.
In a similar development on July 28, 2025, another distress call was received, indicating that armed bandits had attacked Zagaizagi village in the same Sabuwa LGA, kidnapping several residents.
Police operatives, led by the DPO, swiftly responded and engaged the attackers in a gun duel. The bandits were repelled, leading to the rescue of another 14 kidnapped victims. Additionally, two rustled cows were recovered. Unfortunately, two persons lost their lives during the incident.
The statement further noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in both attacks.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their bravery and swift response. He also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to the police and other security agencies to enhance efforts in tackling criminal activities across the state.
CP Shehu reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents in Katsina State.
