Katsina NUJ Mourns Former President Muhammadu Buhari, Describes His Death as Monumental Loss

-

The Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the nation.

In a condolence message issued to newsmen by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Tukur Dan’Ali Hassan (FCAI), the NUJ said it received the news of the former president’s demise with a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah.

According to the union, the late Buhari’s commitment and unwavering dedication to the service of Nigeria dates back to 1975 when he served as Military Governor of Borno State. “From then on, the name Colonel, and later General Muhammadu Buhari, consistently appeared in the pages of Nigerian newspapers and on electronic media platforms, often associated with discipline, dedication, and sincerity in leadership,” the statement read.

The NUJ noted that history would be kind to the late former president for the bold decisions he made in his bid to rid Nigeria of corruption and unpatriotic conduct—both during his military leadership between December 31, 1983, and August 1985, and as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

“As journalists, we recognize his place in history as a figure committed to the betterment of Nigeria. His leadership style, though tough, was geared toward national discipline and reform,” Comrade Dan’Ali stated.

The union extended its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, and the Federal Government of Nigeria over the irreparable loss, praying to Almighty Allah to grant the late statesman Aljannatul Firdausi.

In the wake of the national mourning, the NUJ also called on all practicing journalists in Katsina State to uphold the ethics of the profession in their coverage of all events related to the burial and mourning ceremonies taking place in Katsina and Daura over the next three or more days.

“May the gentle soul of this illustrious son of Katsina rest in perfect and permanent peace. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
