The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals and recovered vandalised electric cables and other exhibits as part of its ongoing crackdown on the theft and destruction of public infrastructure.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested on August 2, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. by operatives attached to the Rimi Police Division during a routine patrol in Rimi Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the local community.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Mansur Suleiman, 21-year-old Mansur Hamza, and 28-year-old Jibrin Ahmed.
Police said the suspects were intercepted while in possession of suspected stolen electrical cables.
Items recovered from them during a preliminary investigation include 60 metres of 100mm electric cable believed to have been stolen, a hacksaw, a pair of scissors, a knife, suspected criminal charms, a motorcycle, and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Command said the suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended members of the community for their vigilance and cooperation with the Police in tackling vandalism.
He also warned individuals involved in the theft or destruction of public and private property to desist, stressing that anyone found engaging in such criminal activities would be made to face the full weight of the law.
