Iraq Back on World Cup Stage After 40 Years as Hussein Delivers

-

Iraq have secured qualification for the World Cup after defeating Bolivia 2–1 in an intercontinental playoff match played on Tuesday.

This victory ends a 40-year wait for Iraq, as they become the 48th and final nation to qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Forward Aymen Hussein scored the winning goal after halftime, following an early opener from Ali Al-Hamadi in the 10th minute at Monterrey Stadium.

Bolivia had equalized before the break through Moises Paniagua.

Iraq have been drawn into Group I, where they will face France, Norway, and Senegal in the tournament scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19.
