Take Campaign Cash, But Don’t Sell Your Votes– Makinde

The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Governor Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to accept money offered to them by politicians during election campaigns but vote for candidates of their choice in the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the remarks during the launch of his 2027 presidential campaign in Bauchi State, where he encouraged voters not to allow financial inducements to influence their political decisions.

He said Nigerians should feel free to collect money distributed by politicians during campaigns without necessarily voting for the individuals or political parties offering the money.

According to him, accepting campaign money should not prevent voters from exercising their constitutional right to choose leaders they believe can best represent their interests.

“If they bring money, it is your money. Collect it and spend it, but vote for whoever your heart desires,” he said.

The APM presidential candidate also called for comprehensive reforms in Nigeria, arguing that the country’s economic challenges, insecurity and the exclusion of some citizens from governance had made it necessary to reconsider the nation’s leadership and governance structure.

He noted that the growing hardship and hunger being experienced by Nigerians, alongside persistent security challenges, required urgent attention from those seeking political offices.

Makinde said the country needed a fresh approach to economic management and national security to address the challenges confronting citizens.

He further stressed the importance of building a government based on accountability, fairness and inclusiveness, saying Nigerians deserved a system that would respond to their needs and improve their living conditions.

The governor maintained that the 2027 general elections would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to make decisions about the country’s future through the ballot box.
