The Former Inspector-General of Police of Nigeria, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.
Adamu was declared the winner of the party’s substitute primary election held in Lafia on Saturday.
The Chairman of the SDP Electoral Committee in the state, Barrister Joseph Achille, said 28,637 delegates from the state’s 13 local government areas participated in the exercise, with Adamu securing the highest number of valid votes.
After being declared the party’s candidate, Adamu pledged to transform governance in Nasarawa State, with a focus on infrastructure development, healthcare, agriculture and the state’s mineral resources.
He promised to improve rural roads and healthcare facilities, particularly in communities that lack adequate government services.
Adamu also said his administration would review the management and utilisation of Nasarawa’s mineral resources to ensure that residents of the state benefit more from the wealth generated from them.
The primary election was attended by national leaders of the SDP, including the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo.
