Katsina Approves KASEDA Project to Build 2,000 Modern Market Stalls

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved a number of key development projects and policy initiatives aimed at boosting the economy, improving education, and strengthening environmental protection across the state.

At its ninth meeting held on Wednesday, the council approved the construction of 2,000 modern market stalls under the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA) programme. The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to support small and medium-scale businesses by providing traders with safe, organized, and conducive business environments.

The market stalls are expected to benefit thousands of youths, women, and other entrepreneurs by creating opportunities to conduct their businesses in a more secure and efficient setting. The project is also expected to address the shortage of business spaces, create employment opportunities, and stimulate commercial activities across various parts of the state.

The council noted that the provision of these market stalls would strengthen the local economy, as small and medium-sized enterprises remain a key driver of economic growth in any society. The initiative is also expected to increase government revenue through expanded commercial activities and attract new investments into the state.

In addition to the KASEDA project, the council approved the procurement and installation of 30 solar-powered street lights in each Tsangaya school located across the state’s 361 wards. The measure is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions, particularly for students who study at night, while reducing the impact of electricity shortages.

The council also approved the implementation of a climate-responsive budget tracking system across all ministries, departments, agencies, and local government councils in the state. The system is designed to ensure that government programmes and expenditures align with environmental sustainability goals and climate change mitigation efforts.

The Katsina State Executive Council emphasized that these initiatives will contribute significantly to improving the living conditions of residents, stimulating economic growth, enhancing educational outcomes, and promoting a sustainable future for the people of Katsina State.
