Dr. Mustapha Inuwa Considering Return to PDP After Meeting with Jonathan

Former Katsina State Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, has disclosed that he is considering a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a high-level meeting with former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Tanimu Turaki.

Dr. Inuwa made this known during a gathering he hosted in Katsina on Saturday, June 20, 2026, where he addressed supporters and political associates on developments surrounding his political future and the state of national politics.

According to him, the meeting focused on the future of the PDP and preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. He revealed that during the discussions, former President Jonathan expressed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the PDP.

Dr. Inuwa stated that Jonathan appealed to him to rejoin the party and contribute to efforts aimed at rebuilding and strengthening the PDP in Katsina State and across the North-West region.

He noted that the former president believes his political experience and influence could play a significant role in revitalizing the party ahead of the next election cycle.

He further explained that discussions also centered on strategies for expanding the party’s support base, attracting new members, and reuniting long-standing PDP stakeholders in order to position the party for a stronger showing in the 2027 elections.

Despite the appeal, Dr. Inuwa emphasized that he has not yet made a final decision on whether to return to the PDP. He said he intends to consult widely with community leaders, political associates, supporters, and other stakeholders before taking any definitive step.

“I will not make this decision alone. I believe it is important to first seek the opinions of the people, my political allies, and supporters before announcing my final position,” he said.

The development has generated considerable interest within Katsina’s political landscape, with observers suggesting that any decision by Dr. Inuwa could have significant implications for political alignments in the state and the wider North-West region as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
