Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Goat Theft in Damaturu, Recover Stolen Animal

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two men over their alleged involvement in the theft of a goat at the popular Sunday Market in Damaturu, recovering the stolen animal and a stick allegedly used to assault the owner during the incident.

The arrest was announced in a statement issued on Sunday, August 2, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

According to the police, the principal suspect, a 35-year-old man, allegedly stole a goat from the market. During an attempt by the owner to recover the animal, an 80-year-old man, who was allegedly acting in concert with the suspect, reportedly attacked the owner with a stick in an effort to prevent the recovery of the goat.

The Command said police operatives responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident, leading to the arrest of both suspects at the scene.

During the operation, officers recovered the allegedly stolen goat and seized the stick believed to have been used in the assault.

The police said the suspects are currently in custody while investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Yobe State Police Command assured members of the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid in the prevention and detection of crime.
