Jigawa State defeated Katsina State 3-2 in a friendly blind football match organized to promote unity, showcase the talents of visually impaired athletes, and encourage the development of disability sports.
The match was held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Katsina Blind Children Intellectual Club, Comrade Nasiru Dauda ‘Yan Siliyu, as part of activities marking the ongoing International Friendship Day celebrations.
Nigerian Post reports that the match took place at the main football pitch of the School for the Blind in Katsina, where players from both states displayed impressive skills, determination, and sportsmanship, entertaining spectators throughout the encounter.
At the end of the thrilling contest, Jigawa emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Katsina after an exciting and highly competitive game officiated by referee Mustapha Abubakar.
Speaking after the match, Comrade Nasiru Dauda ‘Yan Siliyu said such sporting events help strengthen friendship and cooperation between states, promote the abilities of persons with visual impairments, and raise public awareness about the importance of inclusive sports without discrimination.
He emphasized that people with special needs should not be left behind in any sporting or recreational activity, noting that they are capable of competing successfully and delivering entertaining performances when given the opportunity.
