The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, officially presented appointment letters to 2,158 newly recruited teachers as part of his administration’s efforts to improve the quality of teaching and address the shortage of teachers in primary and secondary schools across the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda described the recruitment as a significant milestone in the ongoing reform and development of the education sector.

He said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to its “Building Your Future” agenda through sustained investment in education and human capital development.

The governor revealed that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has recruited more than 9,000 teachers, making it the largest teacher recruitment exercise in Katsina State since its creation in 1987.

He noted that the government has made substantial investments in education, including the construction of over 49 new secondary schools at a cost exceeding ₦17 billion, as well as the establishment of three Smart Schools valued at more than ₦11 billion to provide students with a modern and conducive learning environment.

Governor Radda further disclosed that the state has spent over ₦7.5 billion to pay examination fees for final-year students sitting for WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, and NABTEB examinations.

He also said the government declared a state of emergency on primary school infrastructure, leading to the renovation of more than 340 primary schools across the state.

According to him, the administration has also prioritized teachers’ welfare by introducing a ₦30,000 rural posting allowance for teachers serving in remote communities, training over 25,000 teachers, distributing 18,000 tablet computers to teachers, and providing electric motorcycles to ease transportation for teachers working in hard-to-reach areas.

The governor added that under the AGILE programme, the state supplied 4,095 computers to 200 secondary schools to strengthen digital education and equip students with the skills needed in today’s technology-driven world.

He emphasized that the recruitment process was conducted with transparency, fairness, and merit, based strictly on the actual staffing needs of schools and subject specializations, without any external interference.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, described the recruitment exercise as another demonstration of Governor Radda’s commitment to good governance and equal opportunities for the people of Katsina State.

He disclosed that 64,598 applicants applied for the teaching positions, out of which 8,889 qualified for the Computer-Based Test (CBT). Following the examination, 3,683 candidates passed, while 2,158 of the most qualified applicants were eventually selected for employment.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji, commended Governor Radda for his unwavering commitment to revitalizing the education sector.

He said the recruitment would significantly reduce the shortage of teachers in primary schools and improve the quality of teaching and learning across the state.

Governor Radda congratulated the newly employed teachers and directed the Ministry of Education and the Teachers’ Training Institute to organize a comprehensive orientation programme to familiarize them with professional teaching standards, public service ethics, and modern teaching methodologies.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that will continue to improve teachers’ welfare and strengthen the education sector, with the goal of building a well-educated, prosperous, and progressive Katsina State.
