The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall across several northern states from Saturday through Monday.
According to the agency’s weather outlook, thunderstorms are expected to begin on Saturday in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna States before spreading later in the day to Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, and other surrounding areas.
On Sunday, NiMet said similar weather conditions are expected to affect Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba in the morning, before extending to Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna later in the day.
The agency added that thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to persist across many parts of Northern Nigeria on Monday.
NiMet advised residents to exercise caution due to the possibility of strong winds accompanying the storms. It urged the public to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters, unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms, and refrain from taking shelter under large trees.
The agency also advised airlines to monitor weather updates and forecasts before conducting flight operations.
