The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, identified as Sagir Muntari, over alleged attempted witchcraft-related criminal activities at General Hospital Funtua.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspect was arrested on May 9, 2026, following a report by the hospital’s Chief Security Officer.
The police said the incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. when a hospital staff member noticed an unidentified man moving suspiciously around the hospital premises and alerted security officials.
Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he entered the hospital with the intention of obtaining the womb of a newly born baby for use in spiritual and criminal charm activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage, warned against all forms of criminal and ritual-related activities and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, public institutions, and healthcare facilities across the state.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
