The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled a cattle rustling operation carried out by suspected armed bandits in Bakori Local Government Area, recovering all stolen animals and returning them to their rightful owners.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on June 2, 2026, when suspected armed bandits invaded Gidan Dan Maye village along the Gangaren Makurdi–Jargaba axis and rustled 12 cows as well as an unspecified number of sheep.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bakori swiftly mobilized police operatives and collaborated with members of the Vigilante Group to pursue the attackers.
The security team traced the suspects to an area around Gidan Baushe village, where a fierce gun battle ensued. Faced with the superior firepower and tactical response of the security operatives, the bandits abandoned all the stolen animals and fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
The police confirmed that all the rustled livestock were successfully recovered and handed back to their rightful owners.
The Command further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, as well as dismantle their criminal network.
Commending the bravery and professionalism displayed by the operatives, Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support the fight against criminal activities.
