The Former Minister of Communications, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State following his return to the party.
Pantami secured the party’s ticket during the PDP governorship primary election conducted on Tuesday in Gombe State.
Announcing the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Hon. Gregory Yenlong, declared Professor Pantami as the sole aspirant cleared for the contest.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, the respected Islamic scholar said his ambition to govern Gombe State was inspired by his commitment to serve the people and contribute to the development of the state.
He assured party supporters and residents that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would be anchored on transparency, justice, and good governance.
Pantami is expected to contest against candidates from other political parties in the 2027 governorship election, including Jamilu Gwamna of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former minister had earlier withdrawn from the APC governorship race, alleging irregularities and favoritism in the party’s primary process, which he claimed contravened Nigeria’s 2026 electoral regulations.
He also rejected the earlier reconciliation arrangement within the APC that produced Jamilu Gwamna as the party’s governorship candidate, maintaining that he would continue to challenge injustice through legitimate and lawful means.
