A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, has dismissed reports claiming that he has withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race or agreed to contest for another political position.
Speaking separately to his supporters and journalists on Sunday, Daura maintained that he remains fully committed to his ambition of becoming the next governor of Katsina State, stressing that he has not taken any step to withdraw from the race.
He stated that reports suggesting that the party had already produced its governorship candidate through a consensus arrangement did not follow all the procedures stipulated in the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
According to him, the process of selecting a candidate must be guided by fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the party’s rules, either through a consensus arrangement accepted by all stakeholders or through a properly conducted primary election.
Daura insisted that he has neither withdrawn from the contest nor agreed to seek any other political office, emphasizing that due process must be followed before any decision is taken regarding the party’s governorship ticket.
He further explained that his decision to join politics was driven by his desire to contest for the governorship in order to help address the numerous challenges facing Katsina State, particularly insecurity and economic hardship.
According to him, although positions such as Senator, House of Representatives member, and State House of Assembly member are available, he deliberately chose to pursue the governorship because he believes he can make a meaningful contribution toward improving the state’s condition.
The aspirant also expressed dissatisfaction with the reconciliation and consensus discussions among governorship hopefuls within the ADC, saying that no clear explanation has been provided on how the alleged agreement was reached.
He added that meetings held by some senior party leaders failed to clearly communicate the true outcome of the process to all stakeholders, creating the need for greater transparency and openness.
Daura noted that as a seasoned leader with considerable experience, he would not support any process that is not founded on justice, fairness, and honesty.
He also urged his supporters to remain calm, patient, and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of ongoing developments within the party.
On the possibility of seeking legal redress if due process is not followed, Daura said the country’s laws provide legitimate avenues for anyone who feels their rights have been violated to seek justice.
In conclusion, he reiterated that his primary motivation for seeking the governorship of Katsina State is his determination to tackle the security and economic challenges confronting the people of the state, stressing that his ambition is driven by a desire to serve the public and contribute to the development of Katsina.
